Best Scope for M&P 15-22 + Reflex Sights and a Prism Scope

If you own a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle, you will know that it has a folding sight built-in. However, you will also see that it can still lack in some respects. That is probably why you are here to find the best scope for the MP15-22 so that you can increase the range and accuracy. If you have never used “iron sights” before, then you are missing out a little bit. Even if it is only to have a rapid target acquisition, however, that is not what we are here for.

First of all, as we always do, let’s have a little look at the history of this rifle. This rifle is certainly a newer one than we have been looking at recently, with the production starting in 2009. However, it is not a full “game rifle,” and the design of it came about as an alternative for training for the AR-15. Having said that, though, there are a few other things that people use this rifle for, such as small game hunting, and recreational plinking.

The MP15-22 also has much lower recoil than the MP15 or the AR15, so it is common to see this as a way into the sport of hunting and shooting. Furthermore, it is not as weighty as the alternative rifles, as the upper and lower receivers are polymer instead of aluminum, so it certainly is an entry rifle for everyone.

As we are talking about scopes for the MP15-22, we should take a look at the abilities of the rifle, and what sort of range you can expect for the ammo that you use with it.

Range And Performance

First things first, we all know that this is not going to outperform any higher caliber rifle. However, it is not meant to, either. The maximum that I have ever seen from an MP15-22 is around 230 yards, and I think that some of those hits on a sheet of paper were luck. But, let’s not get into a debate, the reason that I have said that is so that you do not go strapping an enormous Leupold VX-Freedom scope to it and regretting it. Even the top of the pick of .22 ammo will give you a 36.6″ drop over 200 yards, so seriously, don’t go buying something that you don’t need to.

The worst drop that you will find from this caliber round is 118.6″ at 200 yards, but I dont think that we will be going that far with the scopes. When you bring the range back to 100 yards, you see a bit more consistency with how much a bullet will drop, with the average at about 5-6″. Therefore, we will look at scopes for that distance. Of course, the choice is up to you, if you want to try your luck with anything else, go ahead – just remember to come back here and buy something useful after.

I will not show you any huge scopes. However, some of these are much cheaper than others. But, I have chosen the cheaper ones because of the training aspect of the rifle. So, if you are new to shooting, and you are unsure if the iron sight is going to be improved, I suggest that you get a cheaper one. However, if you have been into shooting for a while, and you are looking for the absolute best scope for an MP15-22, then read on.

As I have said, some of these are certainly on the cheaper end. This scope is one of those. Before you completely dismiss it, you need to think about what you are using it for. Are you taking a newcomer to the sport to the range only when it is nice weather, and shooting at short distances? If that’s a yes, then you should consider this scope. Even though I mention nice weather, the Barska is still a very well built scope. It is weatherproof, fog proof, and adjustable for windage and elevation.

It is also very light, which will allow beginners to get used to firing the rifle before adding a ton of weight. Furthermore, the scope has a magnification range of 3-9x, so you can rest assured that the 3x is enough for you to use with the short-range of the ammo. You also have the option to wind it into 9x so that you can get a better view of the target. Whether that is to help to aim, or if it is to see where the shots are landing.

Granted, this is not the finest of scopes available, but then it is a very cheap one. So, you can reserve it for the days that you are helping someone out on the range.  It still has some of the features that you want from a scope, such as fully-coated optics to stop glare.

  • Magnification for beginners and pros.
  • Fully coated optics.
  • It is engineered specifically for 22 rifles.
  • Weatherproof.
  • Outstanding value for money.

  • Not the best brand.

2. Sightmark Ultra Shot Reflex SightSightmark Ultra Shot Multi Red & Green Plus Reflex Sight, Black (SM26008)

If you are looking for something to increase the accuracy of the MP15-22 but not looking for much range, then the Sightmark is probably what you are looking for. It has all of the features of a more extended range scope, such as waterproof, anti-glare, and illuminated reticle. Furthermore, this sight has a four pattern reticle with five variable brightness settings that you can adjust based on your preferences, with a digital switch control for easy switching.

The battery that you get is a CR123A camera battery that will last over 1,000 run hours, so you never have to worry about it running out. Well, not for 1,000 hours, anyway. As with most reflex sights, this has no magnification. Before you skip it though, ask yourself, do you need it for a .22 rifle? Probably not.

This optic is ideal if you want to use it on more than one rifle while you are out, too. It has a quick-release lever so that you can change it over very quickly. Again, this is not the most expensive option that you have available, and you will probably notice that. The optics are not as crisp as some of the others, but again, for the money, this is a brilliant purchase.

  • Waterproof.
  • Lightweight.
  • Long battery life.
  • Multiple reticles and illuminations.
  • Great value for money.

  • Not as crisp as some of the bigger competitors.

3. Bushnell Rimfire Scope 3.5-10x36mm Dropzone 22 Reticle Bushnell 613510B Rimfire Optics Scope with Dropzone 22 Reticle, 3.5-10x36mm, Matte Black

Another scope that specifically meets the requirements of the 22 caliber round is the 613510B. Although it may be a little bit of a mouthful to say, it is certainly not a handful to use. The drop-zone BDC reticle is calibrated to work alongside the ammo, too. It has various coatings on the lenses that make it ideal for dusk, dawn, and daylight. And, of course, it has all of the usual expectations such as 100% water and fog proof, shockproof, and it is nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fog.

The dropzone 22 reticle is calibrated specifically for the MP15-22 ammo. That allows you to calculate bullet drop and elevation for that rifle accurately. However, that does make this a pretty useless piece of kit for any other ammunition. So, keep that in mind if you have come to this page from another article on our site. Zeroing the scope at 50 yards will give you aiming points out to 125 yards, so if you ever shoot at longer distances, it may not be the best scope for you. However, as I have said, you are probably not going to get much more range out of this rifle anyway. Certainly not with much accuracy, nevertheless.

  • Dropzone 22 BDC Reticle.
  • Dusk & Dawn Brightness Coatings.
  • Adjustable parallax.
  • Multi-coated optics.
  • One-piece tube.
  • 100% waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof.
  • Dry-nitrogen filled.
  • 1/4 M.O.A. windage and elevation adjustment.
  • Fast-focus eyepiece.

  • Only useful for 22 caliber rifles.

Now that we are back onto Vortex, we are also onto the big guns (excuse the pun) in scopes. If you want the best scope for MP15-22 rifles, then you are indeed looking at one of the top two that you can buy. This 3x magnification prism scope is an exceptional choice, and it is one of the top contenders for the best MP15-22 scope. It outshines the competition for its ability to gain target acquisition at high speed. As it is a prism scope, you have a compact scope that certainly does not lack in optical quality.

All of the lenses are fully multicoated to allow maximum light transmission while keeping glare away from your eyes. Unlike some other scopes, this has the reticle etched into the prism, which will always ensure an effective point of aim. Furthermore, the reticle has two color selections, each with five illumination brightness settings for various circumstances. This scope comes with a multi-height mounting system for 30 or 40mm, and dual Picatinny rails for pairing with other auxiliary sights.

As you can see, there is undoubtedly a difference between the lower end models and this. However, you still need to decide what you are going to use it for. If you want to hunt varmint, then this is the best option so far. Although, if you are leaching someone to shoot, then perhaps a cheaper option may be better.

  • Prism scope for compact and clear optics.
  • Etched reticle for immense accuracy.
  • Fully multi-coated lenses.
  • Multi-height mounting.
  • Waterproof.
  • Shockproof.
  • Fogproof.
  • Withstands high amounts of recoil.

  • 2032 batteries drain quickly if left turned on.

5. Aimpoint ACO Red Dot Reflex SightAimpoint ACO Red Dot Reflex Sight with Mount - 2 MOA - 200174

Aimpoint is one of, if not the most significant red dot sight manufacturers in the world. That is mainly because they invented the technology and produced the first-ever red dot sight. That was back in 1975, and it was a huge hit then, and things have progressed significantly. If you are looking for a red dot scope for any rifle, not just the MP15-22, this is probably one of the very best choices that you will ever make.

In fact, Aimpoint was the sole manufacturer and supplier for the U.S. Army when they moved away from iron sights. However, that was not with this scope; it was the Aimpoint M4. The fact that the U.S. Army chose Aimpoint is a good enough reason for you too. The ACO is not a magnified scope, and as we have said, there is no need for one with the MP15-22, unless you have poor eyesight. This scope has a 2 MOA dot that comes with nine illumination settings so that you can use it in any light. The battery will even last up to one year should you happen to leave it on.

This ACO truly is the Best scope for MP15-22 rifles, and when you buy it, I am confident that you will see why.

  • Aimpoint quality
  • Nine illumination settings
  • Lightweight
  • Multicoated lenses
  • No set up required, only zero
  • Simple mount

  • No covers
  • Not compatible with night vision

Best Scope for MP15-22 – Conclusion

So, which is the best scope for MP15-22 rifles? Well, that decision is yours. However, if you were to ask me, then you are indeed looking at the Aimpoint ACO. However, if you are just getting into shooting, and you want to see the difference between iron sights and scope, you may want to choose one of the other, cheaper options. Even so, if you have the money to spend on it, you will still be better to buy either the ACO or the Spitfire. The reason is simple; if you pay for a cheaper option, you will see how much of a difference they make, then you will want a better one anyway.

I have seen some other sites that advertise the best scopes as being high magnification, long-range scopes. However, please do not fall into that trap. You are only likely to get 150-200 yards out of this rifle, and you will be severely overpowered in the optics department if you do. Dont forget to check out our scope buying guide, here.
